AI and software engineering jobs

Will AI Take Software Engineering Jobs?

Many students today are asking the same question:

“Should I continue studying software engineering if AI is going to take my job?”

It is a fair concern. AI is changing the way people write code, solve problems, and build software. But the bigger question is this: does AI remove the need for software engineers, or does it change what software engineers need to learn?

The truth is, software engineering is not just about writing code. It is about understanding problems, thinking logically, designing solutions, testing ideas, communicating with people, and building systems that actually work.

AI can help with coding, but it still needs human direction, judgment, creativity, and responsibility.

Also, education is not only valuable because it leads directly to one job title. When you study software engineering, you develop skills that can help you in many areas: problem-solving, technical thinking, automation, product building, business systems, data, cybersecurity, AI tools, and even entrepreneurship.

The future may not reward people who only memorize code. But it will reward people who know how to think, adapt, learn new tools, and solve real problems.

So maybe the question should not be:

“Will AI take my job?”

Maybe the better question is:

“How can I use AI to become a better software engineer?”
